Righteousness

"And you, son of man, say to the house of Israel, Thus have you said: 'Surely our transgressions and our sins are upon us, and we rot away because of them. How then can we live?' Say to them, As I live, declares the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn form his way and live; turn back, turn back from your evil ways, for why will you die, O house of Israel?
And you, son of man, say to your people, The righteousness of the righteous shall not deliver him when he transgresses, as as for the wickedness of the wicked, he shall fall by it when he turns his wickedness, and the righteous shall not be able to live by his righteousness when he sins. Though I say to the righteous that he shall surely live, yet if he trusts in his righteousness and does injustice, none of his righteous deeds shall be remembered, but in his injustice that he has done he shall die. Again, though I say to the wicked, 'You shall surely die," yet if he turns from his sin and does what is just and right, if the wicked restores the pledge, gives back what he has taken by robbery, and walks in the statutes of life, not doing injustice, he shall surely live; he shall not die. None of the sins that he has committed shall be remembered against him. He has done what is just and right; he shall surely live.
Yet your people say, 'The way of the Lord is not just,' when it is their own way that is not just. When the righteous turns from his righteousness and does injustice, he shall die for it. And when the wicked turns from his wickedness and does what is just and right, he shall live by them. Yet you say, 'The way of the Lord is not just.' O house of Israel, I will judge each of you according to his ways."
-Ezekiel 33:10-20

"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,"
-Romans 3:23

"Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, and he shall reign as king and deal wisely, and shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. In his days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely. And this is the name by which he will be called: 'The LORD is our righteousness.'"
-Jeremiah 23:5-6

"When you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. But what fruit were you getting at that time form the things of which you are now ashamed? The end of those things is death. But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus out Lord."
-Romans 6:20-23

I should have posted this about two posts ago, back when I was reading these things. But it was interesting to me that these were scriptures that God had jump out to me... and though I didn't realize it at the time, they all had to do with Christ's righteousness and finished work. Providence of God.

Reminders of our need for a Savior and the promise of redemption all right there :) God is so good.

I found this a little bit funny, because I COULD NOT for the life of me spell 'righteous' on Friday. So I was thinking about that word. And then you blogged on it. Hmmm. Maybe I should take a hint too.
